How to use a sanitary pad
Using a pad properly is an essential part of menstrual hygiene. Here's a clear, step-by-step guide to help you feel confident and comfortable.
- Step 1
Unwrap the pad
Remove the pad from its packaging carefully — most pads are wrapped individually. Wash and dry your hands first.
- Step 2
Stick it to your underwear
Peel off the paper backing and press the sticky side onto the centre of your underwear, placing it evenly.
- Step 3
Secure the wings
If your pad has wings, peel off their backing and fold them around the sides of your underwear to hold it in place.
- Step 4
Dispose properly
When changing, wrap the used pad in its wrapper or some tissue and put it in a bin. Never flush pads down the toilet.
Change every 4–6 hours. Even on lighter days, changing regularly keeps you fresh and helps prevent irritation — use overnight pads while you sleep.
